Emotional mastery is reflected in attitude and energy. It is your ability to stay focused, when faced with disappointment and challenge.
When Cindy joined the Fit, Fab and Fulfilled Mastermind she was frustrated. Although Cindy had a desire for life to change she was stopped by fear and anxiety. During one of the mastermind discussion Cindy realized that her anxiety and fears were from past events. Cindy had the unconscious habit of categorizing most uncomfortable events as positive or negative or good or bad. Her response, to avoid most situation the evokes fear or anxiety. She carried the negative emotion from her past into her present.
When Cindy was encouraged to see all events, whether positive or negative as an empowering opportunity to learn and grow, she began to experience small changes. Today Cindy has begun to set goals that have her excited about her future.

1-3: Emotional Mastery Tip – Clearly define the source of your frustration, conflict, challenge or disappointment as you perceive it.
4-6: Emotional Mastery Tip – Identify your feelings. (Angry, hurt, fearful, sad, frustrated, overwhelmed, tired, alone, abandoned, disappointed, or betrayed)
- What is my perceived loss and what is the perceived cost?
- (Loss of control, loss of power, a loss of friendship, loss of privacy, loss of respect, loss of love, loss of security.)
- Take time to journal about how you are feeling. You will be surprised at how writing about your feeling can allow you to gain new perspective and release the energy and tension negative emotions can create.
7-10: Emotional Mastery Tip – What outcome are you seeking? Now that you have taken time to process your emotions, it time to refocus and get back into action. Begin to identify step you can take to refocus on your goals.
At times emotions can be overwhelming and feel almost impossible to manage. Unfortunately, one of the reasons people do not achieve their goals is because they are distracted and derailed by their emotions. While the event is long past many people hold on to the negative emotions for years. I was once told “you can’t be hateful and grateful at the same time.” Simple yet true, you can’t smile and frown at the same time. Today I write ten gratitude’s daily, it the best way I know to keep positive and focused on what I desire. Next time you are unable to shake a negative emotion, shift your attention to gratitude. Simply stop and write down ten things you are grateful for.
