Acceptance- It Is What It Is!

“Accept – then act. Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it, not against it. ”  – Eckhart Tolle

What does it mean to have Acceptance?

Does the idea of “Acceptance” seem weak or like an admission of failure?

Consider that change, growth and freedom in any area of your life begins with Acceptance.

How will you know how to get to where you want to go unless you know where you are beginning?

If you missed last weeks’ Facebook Live, I discussed the 7 Mindset Mastery Principles to living a Fit, Fab and Fulfilled life.

The 2 mindset principles I would like to highlight are: Acceptance and 100% Responsibility.

Acceptance is defined as: the action of consenting to receive or undertake something offered.
Wikipedia states: Acceptance in human psychology is a person’s assent to the reality of a situation, recognizing a process or condition (often a negative or uncomfortable situation) without attempting to change it or protest it.

“What you resist, persists” -Carl Jun

Acceptance is your willingness to acknowledge your present circumstances. To take an inventory of ‘what is’ in your life without judgement, shame or guilt. It is what it is, no more and no less. To accept is to embrace your strengths while equally looking at what may be negative or challenging and acknowledge it.

Acceptance doesn’t mean you like or agree with your present circumstance. It simply means that you are seeing reality as it is, identifying what’s not working and starting down a path to a solution.

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference.” – Serenity Prayer

When you and I surrender and totally accept reality we are fully able to respond and embrace difference, rather than react and continue to struggle. Acceptance is the capacity to live in a continuous state of “what is”. This shift from a reaction mindset to acceptance allows us to be fully present, giving up the regret of the past or worry about an uncertainty of the future.

What might you choose to accept to create positive change in your life or business?

Who might you be required to forgive?

100% Responsibility is to acknowledge that the quality of your response determines the quality of your life. It is to take full ownership of the thoughts we think, the actions we take, the images we visualize and the stories we tell ourselves.

“I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.” – Nelson Mandela

We can not control what other people choose to do, nor can we always control the circumstances life places at our doorstep. What we do have 100% control over is how we choose to respond. 100% responsibility allows us to powerfully choose our next steps in the face of what is happening in our life. It is said that suffering is optional. When we absolve ourselves of the responsibility, we leave our happiness and our unhappiness in the hands of someone else. When we absolve ourselves of responsibility success often eludes us and we are left feeling powerless experiencing failure.

When you choose to sit in 100% responsibility, your response leaves you fully at cause, harnessing your personal power and influencing your good times and your bad times.

Where in your life can you commit to taking 100% responsibility?

Responsibility and Acceptance are 2 of the mindset mastery principles. Where in your life would these principles have an impact?
